Radon Mitigation in Purcellville, VA
Local, Certified Radon Pros Serving Loudoun County Homes
Northern Virginia Radon Solutions protects Purcellville, VA families with tailored mitigation systems. Our team in Purcellville, VA understands Loudoun’s high radon potential, basement-heavy homes, and tight new construction that can trap gases—especially during winter’s closed-house conditions. We design neat, HOA-conscious installations for townhomes, single-family homes, and condos, delivering reliable reductions that fit your property and budget.
Why Does Radon Mitigation Matter?
Purcellville, VA sits in an EPA Zone 1 area, where geology commonly releases radon into basements and slabs. Many neighborhoods feature finished lower levels and tight envelopes that elevate concentrations when windows stay closed in winter and during summer AC season. Professional mitigation reduces long-term lung cancer risk, protects resale value, and satisfies real-estate requirements, giving you verifiable results backed by local expertise. Crawlspaces, sump pits, and new-build rough-ins can all be integrated for better performance. A properly sized fan and sealed pathways keep levels down year-round.

Fun Facts About Purcellville, VA
Purcellville’s location at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains places homes on complex geology where Piedmont crystalline rocks meet mountain-derived sediments, creating variable but often elevated radon potential. The town’s historic core features older homes with stone foundations and crawlspaces, while newer developments on the outskirts include modern construction with full basements. Testing in Purcellville requires understanding how the area’s topography and drainage patterns affect soil gas movement, as homes on hillsides or in low-lying areas may show different radon concentrations based on subsurface conditions. Our mitigation work addresses Purcellville’s architectural diversity, from Victorian-era homes requiring sensitive exterior system placement to contemporary construction where interior installations work well. We conduct sub-slab diagnostic testing to identify pressure field extension and optimal suction point locations, ensuring efficient radon removal. Crawlspace mitigation in Purcellville often involves comprehensive encapsulation with 20-mil vapor barriers sealed to foundation walls, combined with active ventilation that maintains negative pressure. Fan maintenance includes seasonal inspections before winter weather, verifying that systems operate continuously, and checking that discharge points remain clear of debris from surrounding trees.
Purcellville, VA Success Story
Hillside Foundation Crawlspace Mitigation with 20-Mil Encapsulation Blue Ridge Foothills Property
The Problem
A Purcellville homeowner on a hillside lot contacted us after radon testing returned 5.9 pCi/L in their first-floor living areas. The home had a crawlspace foundation rather than a basement — a common construction type in western Loudoun County’s older housing stock — and the crawlspace itself measured 28.3 pCi/L when tested separately.
The crawlspace had an aging fiberglass batt vapor barrier that had partially collapsed from moisture and was not sealed to the walls — providing minimal resistance to radon migration from the soil below.
What We Did
- Removed the existing failed fiberglass vapor barrier and debris from the crawlspace floor.
- Installed a new 20-mil reinforced polyethylene encapsulation barrier across the entire crawlspace floor (approximately 900 sq ft), overlapping and taping all seams, and running the barrier 12 inches up all foundation walls and pier footings with a sealed overlap.
- Installed an active sub-membrane depressurization system with a suction point beneath the vapor barrier connected to a radon fan. This draws radon from beneath the membrane and exhausts it to the exterior above the roofline.
- Sealed all penetrations through the crawlspace ceiling (floor joists above) with spray foam to reduce the pressure differential driving radon upward into the living space.
- Conducted post-installation testing in both the crawlspace and the first-floor living area.
CLIENT OUTCOME
Living area radon reduced to 0.9 pCi/L post-mitigation. The homeowner noted the crawlspace encapsulation had the additional benefit of reducing floor coldness in winter and improving air quality on the main level.
“The crawlspace was a mess and the old vapor barrier was useless. They completely rebuilt it and the difference in our air quality and radon levels is remarkable. The floors are even warmer in the winter.”
